Anticipated YA Books Releasing In Spring 2019

Hi everyone! I am so excited to participate in this year’s ‘Bookending Spring’ event created by Sam at Fictionally Sam and Clo at Book Dragons! Read the post here if you want to join too!

Today I will be sharing my most anticipated YA book releases this spring! This prompt was created by Jayati at It’s Just A Coffee Addicted Bibliophile. You can read her post on this topic here.

So, let’s begin!

  1. Internment by Samira Ahmed

Publication Date: 19th March 2019

38167114

Although this book is already out into the world, I can’t help but mention it. I am really interested in picking up this book. Set in a dystopian (or as the synopsis calls it, the “near-future”) United States, it focuses on seventeen-year-old Layla Amin, who along with her parents are forced to go live in an internment camp created for Muslim American citizens. This book is especially relevant due to the recent rise in religious conflicts across the worlds and the rise in Islamophobia.

2. With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo

Publication Date: 7 May 2019

38739562

The author of the bestselling book “The Poet X” is back with another novel, which delves into the life of high school senior Emoni Santiago, who loves cooking and wishes to be a chef but has to cope with financial problems to support her daughter and her abuela as well. ‘The Poet X’ got amazing reviews so I am really eager to pick up a new book by this author as well. And just look at the cover! Isn’t it just gorgeous?

3. Descendant of the Crane by Joan He

Publication Date: 9th April 2019

Descendant of the Crane

This book is one of the most anticipated books of not just this spring, but the whole freaking year. I am really excited to delve into this standalone fantasy novel, which focuses on Hesina, a young princess who is suddenly forced to become the queen of the Kingdom of Yan after her father’s death, which she suspects was a murder. She takes the help of a soothsayer, even though magic is against the law and also the help of an investigator-cum-convicted criminal called Akira. I can sense this book will be a spicy mix of deception, secrets, and magic. April 9 can’t come soon enough.

4. Love From A To Z by S.K. Ali

Publication Date: 7th May 2019

Love From A to Z

The cover says it all! Adam and Zayneb meet each other and sparks fly in this spring break romance novel which also tackles important issues like Islamophobia, living with a degenerative disease, etc.

4. Don’t Date Rosa Santos by Nina Moreno

Publication Date: 14th May 2019

41717246

I also talked about this book in my last post 5 2019 Releases To Add To Your TBR.  Basically, this book is about Rosa Santos, who is supposedly cursed by the sea and dating her is apparently bad news, esp. if one is a boy with a boat. It sounds like a light-hearted read, perfect for reading outside in the glorious spring weather.

5. Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo

Publication Date: 7th May 2019

Somewhere Only We Know

K-Pop fans will love this book, which features a romance between an ordinary guy and a famous K-Pop singer. Another perfect read for the Spring season.

6. There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon

Publication Date: 14th May 2019

35583527

This book is about two Indian-Americans, one, Sweetie, a ‘fat’ girl who wants to prove to the world and herself what she’s made of and another, Ashish, whose MOJO goes AWOL after being dumped by his ex. Sparks fly between them and us readers will get a fun, breezy story about finding our true selves.

7. Again, But Better by Christine Riccio

Publication Date:  7th May 2019

41147279

I am excited to read this novel written by the booktuber Christine Riccio. The novel is described as being about second chances, discovering yourself and being brave enough to try again.

8. If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka

Publication Date: 23rd April 2019

40087230

Written by the authors of the popular novel, ‘Always Never Yours’, this book’s main protagonist, Cameron, who is called a bitch at her high school for her brutal honesty, tries to ‘tame’ herself to win her crush over.

9. Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan

Publication Date: 23rd April 2019

35843729

This is a coming-of-age book featuring a queer romance, in which the protagonist lands the job of a giant dancing hot dog. I am all set to read about some cute romance and plenty of embarrassing moments(a person in a hot dog costume? There’s gotta be a whole bunch of awkward moments in there.)

10. Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan

Publication Date: 2nd April 2019

36118682

This novel is the first book in a trilogy named ‘Something Dark And Holy’ and is described as a dark book in which paths of three people entwine in a shadowy world of spilled blood and mysterious saints. Sounds so creepy! Sign me up!

  3. Aaaah I need to get Somewhere Only We Know, Again But Better, Descendant of the Crane when they all come out along with The Boy Who Steals Houses by C G Drews. Hmmm I don’t know about any other books coming out off the top of my head, since I mostly read backlist books, I’m also terrible at keeping up to date with new releases but I’m trying hehe.
